Social Studies:
As we study the Industrial Revolution, we are working on our thinking skills. Students were assigned a question involving the inventions and the effects of the economic growth that resulted in the Industrial Revolution. The goal is to understand the facts in order to infer the social effects. Students are working in groups, with teacher support, to understand the issues. Individual presentations will be given on Tuesday, March 16.
Next up: Maine becomes a state...connections to the Industrial Revolution.
English with Ms. Goldblatt: We continue with expository writing practice this week. Students will be required to research a type of instrument and write a short expository essay about this topic. We'll be working on transitions and organization. By the end of the week, the level 2 for this assignment will be introduced; the entire following week will be dedicated to this.
Reading: Hopefully, we'll finish reading Of Mice and Men this week. We'll then take a look at the moral dilemmas this book raises and analyze the choices of the characters. The final work around this book will be a thesis paper, due the following week.
Science
Students are exploring! The final copy of the article reponse is due on 3/15. Students should still be studying their astronomy notes a few minutes each night. The final astronomy test (on 3/18) will contain all of the astronomy information that students have learned thus far. An online study guide is available at my website.
Mathscapes with Mrs. Morrill
Students will begin working in the Mathscapes series book, Shapes and Space. This book takes a closer look at 3-d figures including surface area and volume. Traditionally, this is one of the more difficult books for students so we will be spending a significant amount of time on this standard.
Algebra with Mrs. Morrill
Students are working on Chapter 10 in the Red Glencoe text. Expect a quiz on Friday over understanding and solving exponential functions as well as an in class "project" on a quadratic. This chapter has been a struggle for many students. We will continue to work through this chapter and will revisit it again as the year progresses!
