8th Grade Sketching Assignments
1) With a light pencil line, divide your page into quarters. Label them 1-4.
* In box 1 do a pencil sketch of your hand in an interesting position, not a flat palmed pose. Draw in the manner you would typically use to do any drawing. In box two, do a pencil drawing of your hand in a new position, but you are not allowed to use your eraser at all. Any lines or marks you make on the page should remain as part of the sketch with no erasures. In box 3, choose a new pose, but this time do the entire sketch with your eyes closed! Even if you “lose your place” in the drawing continue to work, and don’t forget to add those details! In the final box I would like you to draw your hand holding your pencil in the opposite hand you’ve been using to draw the other three. In all your drawings I would like you to include the details of
your hand like nails, folds, wrinkles, and creases, but I don’t want you to add any shading or shadow.
DON’T CHEAT! This exercise is more fun and interesting if you follow the rules for each variation.
2) Do four sketches in your sketch pad selected from the options below:
-a self portrait in pencil
-a landscape in color
-an animal in color with a background
-an additional hand drawing in pencil with details and shading.
-a four picture fruit study(all on one page). One drawing in pencil, one in pen, one in colored pencil, and one using some other color medium(paint, pastel, cut/torn paper collage, marker, etc.) Details! Shading! Highlights!
-create a picture of your choice, but it MUST be done using at least three different types of materials. For instance, a painting that also uses crayons and paper collage in it, or a colored pencil drawing done over a watercolor background with details added in ink pen, or a drawing done in pencil that is enhanced with a little pastel and glitter. The three materials you use don’t necessarily need to be classified as “art supplies”. Think creatively!
Please: -read all directions carefully and see me for questions
-have all your drawings IN your sketch pad
-have your name ON your sketch pad
-label your drawings with the assignment number
Due date: -Friday, June 6th
**********Extra Credit*************
For extra credit, do all six of the drawings in the second assignment instead of just four.
