Chapter 3 Test

10/5/07
Practice/Review
Students took a practice test to review for the test on Tuesday.

REMINDER CHAPTER 3 TEST TUESDAY!!!

10/4/07
Lesson 3.8: Solving Equations and Formulas
Students use the skills they  have been developing and apply them to formulas and equations with multiple variable.  One difficulty is often that the "answer" to a problem is not a single number but a collection of numbers and variables.

Lesson 3.6: Ratios and Proportions
This review lesson shows how to solve simple proportions (two ratios set equal to each other) using the cross-product technique.  Two exampes are given below.

Lesson 3.5: Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides
This is day one of this topic.  The steps for solving equations with variables on both sides are:
Step1: Use the Distributive Property to "remove" grouping symbols.
Step 2: Combine like terms on each side of the equal side.
Step 3: Use the Addition and/or Subtraction Property of Equality to get variables on one side and numbers without variables on the other side.
Step 4: Use the Multiplication and/or Division Property of Equality to solve.
If the solution is false---- NO SOLUTION
If the solution is an identity--- ALL REAL NUMBERS
