SCRAPBOOK
During this school year, you will create a scrapbook of science articles that are related to our units of study. The purpose of this scrapbook is to build a greater understanding of what the current body of research is regarding the content we are learning in school. Specifically, this work directly relates to our essential question for the year, how can we use science to make the world a better place? The work will also connect to unit specific essential questions and will serve as a connection between the work we do in school and the work that scientists are currently doing.
There are a number of important things to consider as you begin to put your scrapbook together, including:
Time management! You will need a total of about three articles for each unit of study for the remainder of the year. This works out to about six articles per trimester. The final product will be due toward the end of the trimester, and there will be staggered deadlines for article submissions, but it would be best to not procrastinate!
The writing process will be incorporated into this work. This means that you will be expected to engage in prewriting, writing, revising, editing, and ultimately, publishing for the scrapbook.
You will include a final reflection at the end of each unit that discusses how each article from each unit connects to each other and to our essential questions.
Creativity and attention to quality work in terms of presentation are valued!
