Week of JUNE 9 - 13

Reading
Persuasive Essays over the book "Of Mice and Men" are due on Monday
We will be revisiting short stories and skits for the remainder of the week.

Language Arts:
We will have our last DOL quiz and spelling test this week.
We will watch Finding Forrester
Grammar review.

Remember: No classes Wednesday due to step-up day.  Grade 8 students wil report directly to the high school.

Persuasive Essay set up is listed below.  This is the set up that students are to use when writing to persuade in any of their classes.

*Trimester 3 - in preparation for the high school expectations, students will not be allowed to re-do any work or make up any work not passed in during trimester 3.  Obviously the exception is if they have an excused absence from class.



Please remember that any day that there is no reading homework, you should be reading for at least 20 minutes.
Every Wednesday in Reading class is sustained silent reading time.

PERSUASIVE ESSAY SET-UP
Paragraph 1:  Introduce Controversial Issue, state your point of view, interesting lead
Paragraph 2, 3, 4:  Supporting facts, details, statistics.  Talk about each one.  Use transition words.  Order of importance 2,3,1
Paragraph 5:  Address one objection
Final Paragraph:  Restate your point of view and revisit your position.  Briefly review your points.
*Your number of paragraphs may vary, but the order  of information should be the same
