On Wednesday Jan. 20, 2010 GMS held its National Geography Bee final competition. Twenty-two students who were winners and runners-up in their various social studies/humanities classes in Grades 6-8 participated in this final competition. David Galin, MSAD#51's Curriculum Director, was the bee moderator. The GMS bee participants really exhibited their knowledge of geography in this year's competition. After nine rounds, the competition came down to two remaining students. Aidan Black, an eighth grader from GMS's Casco Bay neighborhood became the GMS 2010 Geography Bee winner.

Congratulations to all of the GMS bee participants! During the week of 1/25/10, Aidan Black will be given a written test sent from the National Geographic Society, and if he scores in the top 100 students in the State of Maine, Aidan will be eligible to participate in the State of Maine Geography Bee on April 9, 2010. If Aidan should win the state bee, he will be going to Washington, D.C. in May to compete the the National Geography Bee. Good Luck, Aidan!
