iBook Policy
GMS iBook Policy for the year 2006-2007

(please check all the policies you understand and agree to)

General Information

_____   The iBook and carrying case are the property of the State of Maine and has been issued to me and my family for the year 2006-2007 and must be returned at the end of the year or if I leave during the year.

_____   Once an iBook is issued to me and my family, I am responsible for it at all times.  If lost, stolen or damaged, I or my family will be obligated to replace it.

_____   I must have my infraction card with my iBook at all times.  Loss of an infraction card will result in a teacher detention and one infraction on the replacement card.  (Infraction cards are usually kept behind the student information card in the storage case.)

_____   My iBook should never be left unattended.

_____   Leaving my iBook behind in a classroom unattended, in an unsupervised area such as the lunchroom, or not putting my computer away properly will lead to detentions.  (See infraction card.)

_____   I will not remove the identification tag from my iBook or its storage case.

_____   The identification tag on my storage case should contain my name, the name of my school and the school’s phone number.

_____   I will keep all foods and drinks away from my computer.

_____   I will not physically mark up the iBook and storage case.  My computer should be clean at all times and appear to be brand new.  (Do not write on it, put stickers, tape on it, etc.)

_____   The iBook issued to me must be used as an educational tool and should only be used in that capacity.

_____  I am not allowed to create hidden or nested folders on the iBook.

_____   My iBook should be in my possession or in a secure location at all times.  A secure location would be a teacher approved cabinet, shelf or table.

_____   My iBook should never be left on the floor.

_____   Teachers have administrative control so that at any time a teacher may “look” at what I have on my computer.

_____   My parents/guardians are entitled to my password.

_____   I am to keep my password confidential.

_____   I may not print without teacher permission.

_____   I am responsible for the recharging of my laptop’s battery.

_____  I will shut  down the computer at the end of the day while it is charging.

_____   I will not install/download any software, shareware or freeware without a teacher’s permission.

_____  I am responsible for saving my work to a back-up server.

_____   Any inappropriate use or neglectful care of an iBook or its carrying case observed by anyone should be reported immediately.

_____   My iBook should be kept in its storage case when not in use.

_____  When charging an iBook in a classroom cabinet, I will place the iBook on top of the case while it is plugged in.

_____   I am responsible for any inappropriate use or neglectful care of a computer and will receive the consequences as stated in our GMS Discipline Continuum under vandalism, theft, etc.  I understand that the consequences will increase with each report.

Internet Rules, Reminders, and Guidelines

_____   I will follow the school’s Internet use policy at all times.  (In planner)

E-Mail Rules, Reminders, and Guidelines

_____   During school hours, e-mail should be used only for educational reasons.

_____   I will not enter any chat rooms.

_____   I will not engage in any kind of instant messaging.

_____   I will not open an e-mail from someone I do not know.

_____   My e-mails can be monitored.

_____   Any inappropriate use of my e-mail will result in my e-mail privileges being taken away for a period of time that will be determined by the school.  The length of time e-mail privileges are taken away from me will increase with each reported incident.

Sign-Out

_____   Taking my iBook home is a privilege, not a right.  This privilege can be revoked.

_____   In order to take my iBook home, I  will need to submit to the school a signed copy of the Sign-Out Procedure form.

_____   I must always sign out my iBook when leaving school grounds with it.

_____  If I don’t return the iBook the next day, I will receive one infraction and will  need to call home to have someone bring the iBook back to school.

_____  In order to take the iBook off school grounds, my family agrees to participate in the school’s insurance program.  There is a fee to join, and my family is responsible for the deductibles needed for repairs that are a result of negligent handling of the laptop.
